Hi people,
I've always wanted to do F-84. In addition to other models like HobbyBoss, I chose Academy because of the so much details on that little 1/72 kit. OOB parts are pretty good, you don't need resin cockpit or some PE set. During the assembly I have not had any problems with gaps or joint's. I have no complaints at all... great kit!
The decals which are given in the box were not too interesting for me, so I bought aftermarket decals for Yugoslavian Thunderjet.
This aircraft of the period of the Korean War (mid 50s). Did it really exist in Yugoslavian AF? What I mean is whether US really exported Thunderjets to Yugoslavia, taking into account that aftermarket decals exist for one? I have the same 1/72 from HobbyBoss, an excellent copy.
Yes, Yugoslavia had F-84, F-86 and T-33. This Thunderjet (ev. number 10571) was based in Batajnica in 1960's.There were only a few Thunderjet's with that experimental camouflage and black numbers.
Эти самолеты действительно были в Югославских ВВС. Иосип тогда поссорился с Иосифом ну и сменил ориентацию, в смысле политическую. А Тандерджет - великолепен! respect!
Yes, undercarriage bays on your model tend to look of orange color, although they should be of ochre color, more greenish-yellow like on the model below (not mine, but the color the same on mine). At least, on those, which flew in Korea. I used to assemble one and spent a while searching web until found the undercarriage of an original aircraft to paint the same on my model. Here is brief history where F-84 came to Yugoslavia from. “Yugoslavia Air Force. Republic F-84 Thunderjet * Retired * Two hundred and nineteen F-84G Thunderjets delivered from 9 June 1953 onwards. The first batch came from the USAF under MDAP. A second batch came from the Greek Air Force circa 1957. Initially used for the fighter interceptor role, but relegated to the fighter-bomber role by the arrival of the F-86E. Some were subsequently converted to 'RF-84G' reconnaissance versions. Their final use was as advanced trainers. Withdrawn from service in 1974.”

Wheel bays are not orange, they are painted in Yellow Chromate, but paint looks strange because of the bad light on pictures. :)
